Next Post →. The 1.4-liter Volkswagen CAXA 1.4 TSI engine was produced by the company from 2006 to 2016 and was installed on almost all known models of the German concern of its time. This engine was the most common representative of the first generation of TSI engines. The EA111-TSI series includes: CBZA, CBZB, BMY, BWK, CAVA, CAVD,
Description. The factory CAV, CAX, BLG, BMY pistons up to 2013 are the weakest link of the 1.4 TSI engines. Upgrading to reinforced pistons allows for more horsepower and reliability. The most common problem with pre-2013 pistons is ring land failures. The upgraded pistons feature Alfin inserts, which is an Austentitic cast iron reinforcement
Problems with the Timing Belt in 1.2 TSI. In some 1.2 TSI engines of the EA211 series, serious engine damage has occurred. The cause of this was the timing belt, which could tear due to a defect in the camshaft gears. The engines primarily affected were from the production year 2014.

Thank you all for responding it does look like its not normal. Dealer has had it and inspected it and found no leaks and they tried to fob me off with 'these engines do burn a bit' I responded but not over 5 times what the user manual would suggest at which point the service manager then agreed it was excessive and said they would do a process called an oil consumption test and send the result
The question makes no sense. 1.4 TSI can refer to either the EA111 or the EA211 engine family. 2.0 TSI can refer to either the the EA113 or the EA888 engine family. Each of those are different engines with different technical solutions and that share very few (if any) components and have different strengths and weaknesses.
The 1.4L turbocharged EA211 engine has been around for about a decade now, and it was standard equipment on several Volkswagen models here in the U.S., including the MK7 Golf and the Jetta Hybrid. This compact but powerful engine replaced the naturally aspirated 2.5L five-cylinder engine. It makes a respectable 140 hp, but it makes a stout 184

The new 1.4 TSI, EA211, does not use a timing chain. Instead, the engine uses toothed belt to drive several critical engine parts. This means that this 1.4 TSI series has no problems with the timing chain tensioner. Unfortunately for the EA111 1.4 TSI, the engine suffers from a tensioner failure like many other Volkswagen engines.
The Jetta Hybrid’s 1.4 Turbo. We also got some seat time in the upcoming Jetta hybrid. There, a 150-hp, 1.4-liter TSI is married to a 27-hp electric motor that is fed an AC diet from a 1.1-kWh
Problems and Breakdowns - 1.2 TSI engine. At this point, the life of a 1.2 TSI engine should be divided into two phases: pre (EA111) and post modification (EA211). The first constructions struggled with significant chain-drive problems. A distinctive feature is the camshaft with 8 valves. After an improvement in 2012, the engine has 16 valves
EA111 1.2 TSI/TFSI Engine Problems and Reliability The most common issue is a stretched timing chain and timing chain tensioner failure. That can happen on a relatively small mileage – between 40,000-60,000 miles (60,000-100,000 km). The engine produces a lot of vibrations – this is a normal cold engine operation!
